What is Montessori Learning?

The Montessori approach is based on the idea that children are naturally curious and capable learners. It places a strong emphasizes on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for the child's natural psychological, physical, and social development.

Key principles of the Montessori Method include:

Mixed-age classrooms

Mixed-age classrooms provide a holistic approach to learning that focuses on the individual child's development, social skills, and a sense of community. They create a rich and dynamic learning environment that allow children build each other up to reach their full potential.

Child-Centered environment

The classroom has been thoughtfully prepared to encourage inquiry and learning. The materials are placed so that children can select activities according to their interests and developmental stage in an organized and easily accessible way.

freedom

In an organized setting, kids are allowed to select their own activities. This teaches children to respect others' needs and boundaries while fostering independence and self-control. The role of the teacher is to demonstrate proper use of classroom materials and develop circulums for student's based on individual interests and needs.

hands on learning

Montessori materials are designed to be manipulative and self-correcting, allowing children to learn through exploration and experimentation. This further promotes engagement, human senses, and development of fine motor skills.

independence

Most of Montessori's hands-on materials are self-correcting, so children can recognize and fix their own errors. Children who learn to trust their own abilities and problem-solving skills are more independent and confident.

respect

All children are capable and worthy of respect.  In the classroom, there is a mutual respect between adults and children. While guiding and supporting children's learning, teachers also have faith in their ability to make decisions and grow from them.
