Our Beginnings

2003

Erica founded In-Joy as a home-based daycare, initially serving a small group of 10 children. With a clear and purposeful vision, Erica set out to create a learning environment that thoughtfully blends the Montessori and Reggio Emilia philosophies, honouring the child as a capable, curious, and independent learner. From the beginning, Erica's goal was to support each child’s development holistically by nurturing their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth while cultivating a lifelong love of learning.

2005

In-Joy's Gilpin Location located at 5375 Gilpin Street became an Infant-Toddler program with the capacity for 10 children.

2006

In-Joy opened its Primary Years location at 6868 Beresford Street in Burnaby, BC. This location serves 25 children ages 2.5 to 6.

2015

Aurora Montessori Children's House opened its first location in North Burnaby. Aurora's new location will be opening at 2250 Boundary Road, Burnaby, in the summer of 2026.

Kimberly is a dedicated Montessori educator with over a decade of experience in early childhood education. Born in the United States and raised in Taiwan, she grew up in a Montessori household where her mother also served as a Montessori teacher. Bilingual in English and Mandarin, Kimberly brings a rich cultural perspective to her teaching practice.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2009, Kimberly spent several years working in the business field. However, her passion for working with children led her to pursue early childhood education in Canada, where she obtained both her AMI Montessori Primary Diploma and ECE certification in 2013.

Since then, Kimberly has worked exclusively in Montessori settings, where she is known for her calm, nurturing presence and her commitment to fostering independence, curiosity, and creativity in young children. She strives to create a warm, safe, and inspiring environment that supports each child’s unique development. For Kimberly, the greatest reward is witnessing the growth and joy in children as they discover the world around them.
